# Data Recipient Categories

### Overview

Data recipient categories pertain to the groups or entities to which personal data is disclosed during or after processing. Visibility into this classification of data recipients is relevant to an organization in order to understand personal data flows and demonstrate regulatory compliance, particularly with respect to maintaining records of processing activities, and can be used to categorize business-specific and regulation-specific categories.

Understanding the different data recipients is vital for organizations to accurately identify, manage, and safeguard the personal data shared with these entities. By doing so, organizations can ensure that they are meeting their legal obligations and maintaining the trust of their customers and stakeholders.
